Equestrian and sporting artist Ruth Buchanan
Equestrian and sporting artist Ruth Buchanan is joining the EHOA as a discount provider, giving members the chance to get 10% off prints or her special commisioned work.
Ruth will be exhibiting at Burghley, where she’ll be showing work in progress of the painting she’s currently doing of 4* horse Dunauger, ridden by Harry Meade. The intricate work is based on hundreds of photos Ruth has taken of Dundee, at Burghley last year, at home and competing in the CIC at Bramham this year, and she aims to capture the personality of the horse and the occasions.
“I really like to get under the skin of my subjects and spend time with them so I can pick up every nuance from the exact colour of their coats to the way they move.” she says “ Owners say I’ve been able to capture their horse’s soul.”
Springalong, Walk on Star, Primmore’s Pride, Tom Quigley, Cornerman and Shear H20 have also been painted by Ruth, who specialisies in event horses, as well as capturing dogs, hunting and racing scenes.
Ruth started drawing horses as a child. The fascination remained with her throughout her careers in graphic design, as a college lecturer and riding instructor. She became a full-time artist in 2001, A keen horse-woman herself, Ruth now lives and works in West Yorkshire.
