Harry

Annabel Brunner and her daughter Carys Jackson have high hopes for their home bred youngster Harry (Patent Law) a four year old by Mill Law. However, Harry has a lively temperament and Annabel and Carys have found that traditional type mixes tend to go to Harry’s head making him fizzy and difficult to handle. Added to this Harry tends to lose weight very easily, and as he still has a lot of filling out to do needed a feed that would provide him with essential nutrients and calories without exacerbating his behaviour.

Calm & Condition was recommended for Harry by Allen & Page nutritionist, Claire Lawrence. Calm & Condition is a high calorie feed that is designed for horses that need to put on, or struggle to maintain their weight and condition. Calm & Condition is free from barley and molasses making it lower in starch and sugar and ‘friendlier’ on your horse’s digestive system. Calm & Condition is particularly suitable for horses that are sharp or have a tendency to become fizzy on traditional conditioning mixes as the energy it supplies comes from its high fibre and oil content, both of which are excellent sources of slow release energy which is less likely to lead to excitable behaviour.

Since feeding Calm & Condition Annabel and Carys have noticed that Harry has a sleek, shiny coat and that he is in great condition too. Harry is much calmer and with his improved behaviour is ready to start his career under saddle.

Sarah Charnley & Matty

Having been backed and turned away Lematan Premier Addition, or Matty as he is known to his friends, a 16.1hh by Sandro II arrived at Sarah Charnley’s as a raw 3 year old who needed to gain weight and condition. As Matty can be explosive at times, with a very large buck! Sarah needed a feed that would help Matty put on the weight and condition he needed but without exacerbating his natural exuberance. Sarah also found that despite Matty’s ‘airs above the ground’ that he could also be rather lazy and ‘not in front of the leg’.

Sarah was recommended Calm & Condition for Matty. Calm & Condition is ideal for horses that need to gain weight and condition while remaining sensible . The energy (calories) that Calm & Condition provides come from its high fibre and oil content, both of which are excellent sources of slow release energy, which is less likely to lead to fizzy or excitable behaviour. Calm & Condition is also ideal for harder working horses who need to remain level headed.

Calm & Condition has helped Matty mature and fill out into a superb 5 year old. Despite the cold weather of this winter and the fact that Matty is living out he is in fantastic condition and is maintaining his weight well, and most importantly he is settled in his work.

Sarah is looking forward to the competition season with Matty and will also be feeding Power & Performance to help boost Matty’s energy levels while he is working harder.

Impressed with the results of feeding Calm & Condition Sarah has also started feeding Veteran Vitality to Hob, her 25 year old ex-intermediate eventer. Hob is in Sarah’s words ‘a nightmare to keep weight on during the winter’. However, after feeding Veteran Vitality for just 3 weeks Hob has gained weight, his coat is in good condition and he is back to his usual fun self.

Veteran Vitality is ideal for older horses and ponies and being low in starch and high in fibre it is ‘kinder’ on the digestive system. Veteran Vitality contains good levels of linseed as a source of Omega 3 essential fatty acids which have anti-inflammatory properties and is also fully balanced with vitamins and minerals.

Hank

Jackie MacCallum has owned Colpitts Globetrotter, or Hank, as he is known to his friends, for just over a year. Jackie was attracted to Hank’s wonderful attitude to work and life, and despite Hank having only previously competed at showjumping he proved that he had a lot of potential as an eventer too.

Jackie’s goal with Hank is to be competitive at Novice level and they have already been out competing a little, while getting to know one another. Jackie and Hank attended the EHOA summer camp at Rolleston, Leicestershire, last year and found the training experience hugely beneficial. While at the EHOA camp Jackie had the opportunity to speak to Allen & Page Nutritionist, Claire Lawrence. Jackie was finding, that although Hank is generally a laid back horse, he could be quite exuberant at times and also that he lacked stamina. With this in mind Power & Performance was recommended.

Power & Performance is a high energy feed that is ideal for horses in medium to hard work, such as eventers. Unlike many other competition feeds Power & Performance is free from barley and molasses making it lower in starch and sugar and therefore less likely to lead to fizzy or excitable behaviour. Power & Performance contains a combination of fast release energy sources, for short bursts of intense work, and also slow release energy sources for improved stamina.

Jackie has been amazed at the transformation in Hank since feeding Power & Performance. Hank’s stamina levels have improved considerably and he no longer struggles with training sessions. Hank is in great condition and while his natural enthusiasm and exuberance have not been lost, Jackie has found that Hank’s concentration has improved, making Hank much more trainable and Jackie’s job as rider an easier one.

Fergus

After discovering that her young Thoroughbred eventer, Fergus, would not tolerate being shod, Catherine Thompson decided to go down the barefoot route. Having researched the subject Catherine found out that she needed to remove certain cereals and maintain a low sugar level in her horse’s diet.

After contacting Allen & Page, Power & Performance was recommended for Fergus. Power & Performance is a competition feed that is suitable for horses in medium to hard work and it supplies a combination of fast and slow release energy for both ‘oomph’ and stamina. Being barley and molasses free Power & Performance has proved ideal for Fergus and he has been able to compete successfully without shoes. In Catherine’s own words “Power & Performance provides Fergus with the energy he requires without sending him over the top in any way”.

Catherine’s second horse, Samba, a retired Thoroughbred had ‘typical Thoroughbred feet’ and was unable to manage without shoes. Having had such success feeding Fergus on Allen & Page Feeds, Catherine decided to try Samba on Ride & Relax. A palatable muesli mix Ride & Relax is ideal for horses in light to medium type work and it is also free from barley and molasses making it lower in starch and sugar.

Samba is thriving and can happily manage without hind shoes. Now that she is a little older Catherine has moved her onto Veteran Vitality, a low starch feed that has been designed with the older horse in mind. Both Samba and Fergus have maintained their condition really well during the extremely cold weather that we have had this year and Catherine feels that Allen & Page feeds have played a major factor in this.
