July 2011
IT was a packed but enjoyable day when this year's
AGM (5 July) coincided with the equestrian element of
the London Prepares series, writes Monika Hunt.
Held at a new venue, the Queen's Club in West
London, the meeting began later than usual, at
5.30pm, to give those
who went to the test
event at Greenwich a
chance to make their
way across town.
Once there, we had
a good AGM attended
by about 30 members.
Business was followed by an interesting talk from Peter
Begg, a board member of the Queen's Club, who told
us about its early days as an all-round sports' club,
taking us up to the present day, its annual tournament
and the various ball games played there. Afterwards,
we enjoyed drinks in the Members' Bar and had a
delicious dinner for 20 in the President's Room.
THERE is still plenty of EHOA hospitality to be enjoyed
throughout the summer and beyond. Look out for us at
the following:
·
Aston-le-Wells, Saturday 23 July: In what's become
a fixture of summer, we will again be hosting Pimms on
the Mound on Advanced cross-country day.
·
NEW!
Burgham, Saturday 23 & Sunday 24: We're
adding a new hospitality tent at this much-anticipated
Northumberland event. It runs alongside Grand Prix level
show jumping and will be an Advanced fixture next year.
·
Gatcombe Festival, Friday 5-Sunday 7 August: On the
mound overlooking the show jumping on Saturday and
Sunday. Cold food, hot drinks, wine and soft drinks. EHOA
members, competing riders and owners are eligible;
accompanied guests welcome with a donation. There will
be CCTV all day, and a garden overlooking the arena.
·
Burghley, Thursday 1-Sunday 4 September: Our ever-
popular marquee returns near ring two, offering lunch,
refreshments and a bar, plus CCTV. Open from 9am-
5.30pm, it will serve breakfast on Saturday and Sunday.
·
Osberton, 29 September-3 October: The hospitality
tent is open to EHOA members and owners of competing
horses. Drop by for coffees, teas, biscuits, soup and
sandwich lunches (to be paid for), newspapers and pre-
booked dinners each night.
·
Aldon, Thursday 20-Sunday 23 October: We are
planning a hospitality tent at this popular end-of-season
event. Keep checking www.ehoa.org for full details nearer
the time, and for all our hospitality updates.
